Hosted by New York Disaster Interfaith Services (NYDIS) in collaboration with The Salvation Army, this Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Training is a full-day, in-person program designed for community members and faith leaders. Taking place on February 4 at New York Disaster Interfaith Services (4 West 43rd Street, Room 415, New York, NY), the training equips participants with practical tools to recognize and respond to mental health challenges.
Mental Health First Aid is a globally recognized public education program that teaches participants how to identify risk factors and warning signs of mental illness, understand their impact, and provide initial support during a mental health crisis. Through interactive learning — including discussions, role-playing, and multimedia — attendees gain confidence in offering help and connecting individuals to appropriate professional, peer, and community resources.
All training materials and an MHFA manual are included, and participants who complete the course and assessment receive a certification valid for three years. The training is free for individuals from faith-based organizations and available for a fee to non-faith-based participants.
